Worried about the weather?

What should I bring with me to the performance?

Shows are performed in the early evening, so there are some important things to bring along. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and carry only what you will need for the evening. If you are sensitive to insect bites we also recommend bringing bug repellent. As we do not provide seating, you are welcome to bring folding chairs--but remember, as our productions moves quite frequently (every 5 to 10 minutes), a picnic blanket may be a more convenient option.

What are the FREE Workshops?

New York Classical Theatre presents free educational family workshops for children ages 7-12 and their parents before selected performances. All of our workshops are a wonderful introduction to classical theatre. Family workshops are taught by our performers and filled with games. Participants will learn the story of the play, how to get ready for the show and get a chance to act from the script. Parents are encouraged to participate with their kids too! Each free workshop begins at 5:00 pm before selected performances, lasts for 45 minutes and no reservations are required.

Why do you produce in city parks?

The primary component of New York Classical Theatre's mission is accessibility.
With New York City parkland as our "stage," we can reach out to a broad demographic of our urban community, spanning all ages, ethnicities and income levels. Public parks remove the formal conventions of a traditional theater venue, allowing people to wander into the show as they please and move around during the performance.

Why free?

Our free performances attract not only traditional theatre-goers, but underserved and non-traditional spectators, including non-native English speakers. We rehearse all our productions in their public performance spaces, encouraging our audience to actively observe the evolution of a professional production while demystifying the language and poetry of classical theatre. In this way, we open our world to more people who otherwise might never see a classical production.

How can I arrange an audition with
New York Classical Theatre?

Mail a photo/resume to New York Classical Theatre 40 West 116th Street, #B1004
New York, NY 10026. We will contact you if you are suitable for a position with our company and arrange an audition. What's it like to work for us? Ask some of our actors!

How do I apply for an internship?

Our professional internship program is the backbone of New York Classical Theatre. For each production we hire 5-7 interns through a competitive process beginning in March of each year. For all information, please download our 2009-2010 Internship Brochure.

Where can I learn more about Shakespeare ?

While it's not necessary to read the play before seeing the show, ardent theater fans can access all of Shakespeare's plays by visiting the Complete Works of William Shakespeare at MIT.
